Not All Drug Rehabs Are Equal, Or Equally Successful

Drug

As the sun sets over the beautiful Pacific Ocean, casting the last of its warm light over the pristine Malibu sand, it’s easy to forget that you’re undergoing Drug Treatment. That’s perfectly okay. Just because you’ve fallen victim to drug addiction doesn’t mean that kicking your vice needs to be an exercise in punishment. You’ve taken the difficult first step in seeking treatment and it only makes sense to seek every advantage possible.

It’s not a big secret that quitting any drug -whether it’s pot, heroin or prescription painkillers- is a tough journey. There will be incredibly trying moments and times when you want nothing more than to walk or, better yet, run away from the whole thing and get yourself a fix. Detox can be extremely unpleasant and therapy can be both physically and emotionally draining. While being surrounded by lush gardens and having access to luxury hotel-like amenities won’t cure you in itself, it certainly helps to remove some of your stress, allowing you to focus on your recovery. Take a leading Drug Treatment Center like Sunset Malibu, for example. The list of features offered by this facility reads like a resort brochure:

• gourmet meals
• spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean
• wide range of outdoor activities including horseback riding, surfing and hiking, not to mention beach access
• holistic therapies including yoga, acupuncture and massage
• luxuriously appointed, private bedrooms
• fully equipped gym
• two-acre, private estate featuring extensive gardens

While having the ability to relax in comfortable surroundings is an important element in recovery from addiction, there’s no getting past the fact that the quality of the staff and the strength of the programs are what make or break your stay.

A world class Drug Rehabilitation program will employ experienced, compassionate and dedicated staff in a relatively small facility. These people are assigned the responsibility of overseeing and directing each patient’s treatment, so their skill will be critical to a patient’s recovery. Having only a small number of patients at any one time allows for individual attention that’s missing in large-scale programs. The patient must be closely monitored through all stages of treatment, starting with admission and detox, ensuring that their progression does not get sidetracked. The close involvement of experienced and involved staff allows for the treatment program to be adjusted and personalized to fit the needs of each individual patient so that they get the maximum benefit from their treatment. This last point is key to a high recovery success rate and bears repeating: treatment programs that are individualized are recognized as having a higher success rate.

Once a patient has successfully completed treatment, they can’t simply be turned out on to the street and expected to make it on their own. Many Drug Rehabs take the approach that their responsibility ends when their patient walks out the door and if that person relapses, well, repeat business is a good source of income. That’s not the case with all centers, though. The best offer extensive aftercare programs, including ongoing counseling and support for patients and their families. This not only helps a patient ease their way back into life outside the treatment center, but provides a support network that helps them maintain the clean lifestyle they worked so hard to achieve.
